Custom cabinetry, upholstery & furniture making in wairoaCabinetmaking is an art, whether it be creating a one of piece of furniture from a stack of undressed timber or restoring a well worn antique to its former glory these are done with precision and passion that comes from over 40 years experience in the furniture industry.
Born and bred on the East coast of the North Island in a small rural community of Wairoa I grew up in the workshop of father Bill O’Connell Motor Trimmer and Upholsterer which eventually became W.O’Connell and Son manufacturers of ClydeStyle furniture, by the end of 1978 I had left school and started a cabinetmaking apprenticeship and then further qualifying with advanced trade certificate in 1983 after a brief break from the business I returned in 1984 and became a partner in the business alongside Father & Mother, Bill and Margret, a few years on Margret retired and brother Kevin joined the Partnership and eventually it was owned by myself and Kevin who have enjoyed owning and running what is now known as ClydeStyle furniture by O’Connell for the last 25 years now in a progressive move sees the partners establishing 2 separate entities which will compliment each other with contractual arrangements to ensure the ClydeStyle furniture brand maintains its reputation for quality and consistency An important aspect of furniture and cabinetmaking is understanding how things work in order to achieve the desired outcome whether it be for client or an addition to the range, with over 40 years in the furniture making industry designing and restoring many individual pieces for a variety of clients the knowledge and experience gained is unmeasurable and the sign of a true craftsman with a passion for what he does. |
